Trace

A browser editor that turns calibrated photographs into editable pockets and printable shadowbox trays.

Overview

Trace creates fitted organizers from photographs. Paper corners or a measured distance establish physical scale; paper calibration also corrects perspective. Browser-local AI traces object silhouettes, and the editor supports manual outlines, vertex edits, smoothing, rotation, and pocket clearance.

Arrange the pockets in a flat or Gridfinity tray, preview the geometry, and export an STL in millimeters for a slicer. Projects save locally, with optional private account storage for opening the photo, calibration, outlines, and tray settings on another device.

Implementation

  • Browser-local SlimSAM segmentation with self-hosted model files
  • Physical scale calibration and paper-plane perspective correction
  • Editable outlines, pocket geometry, Gridfinity feet, and STL export
  • Local-first saves and conflict-preserving account synchronization

Current scope

Photos and tracing stay on the device during inference. Optional account saves upload the complete project to private storage. Small, transparent, touching, or frame-clipped objects may need manual outline correction.
